Most divorcing clients are not even familiar with the term, discovery. Let me first say that discovery simply means to gather all the financial information concerning your spouse. Include their assets, their checking accounts, bank statements, tax returns, and any interest they may have in any businesses. If they do have a business, you need to know the value of that business. That information is obtained in what is called the process of discovery. The financial resources of each individual would determine the complexity of the discovery and the amount of research needed for a spouse to feel comfortable that they know the real net value of their assets – and those of their spouse.
