New Jersey Attorney Tanya L. Freeman
Managing Partner & Attorney
Tanya L. Freeman, Esq. is a well-known family law attorney and leader. She has spent more than 20 years helping people through hard family issues. She works on divorce, child custody, child support, moving out of state with kids, and domestic violence cases. Many of her cases involve high conflict or complicated finances, so her legal precision and discretion are critical. She works hard to protect her clients’ rights and their future.
Tanya is known for more than just winning cases. She treats people with honesty and respect, even during stressful times. She helps her clients get through tough life changes with strength and care.
Before becoming a lawyer, Tanya worked in banking and insurance for over 15 years. She uses this knowledge to help with financial issues in divorce cases, like dividing business assets and planning for the future.
Tanya has held top leadership jobs at big law firms. She has been a Managing Partner and a Department Chair. She built strong teams and helped train new lawyers. Today, she leads her own firm, Tanya Freeman Law, LLC.
Tanya also gives back to her community. From 2018 to 2025, she was Chair of the Board at University Hospital in Newark. Before that, she served on the board from 2014 to 2018. She helped the hospital improve and rebuild trust with the public.
In 2026, Tanya took on a new role. She became the first Chief Strategy and Policy Officer for the African American Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey. In this job, she helps Black-owned businesses grow and get funding.
Tanya has earned many honors for her work. The New Jersey Supreme Court appointed her to the District VB Ethics Committee. She has also served with the New Jersey State Bar Association and the Essex County Bar Association. She is a Fellow of the American Bar Association, a special honor for top lawyers.
Tanya also teaches other lawyers. She has given talks on custody and child support law at conferences in San Juan, Madrid, and Rome.
